You can find them at the fair, a festival and, now, on Fridays in downtown Charleston.
Funnel cakes have made their return to the Peanut Shoppe, at 126 Capitol St. from noon to 3 p.m. on Fridays. You can get the tangle of deep-fried batter topped with powdered sugar. The cost with tax comes to a little over $8.
Kandi Kimble, co-owner, said the Peanut Shoppe stopped selling funnel cakes in 2018. They were brought back for the store’s 75th anniversary last month.
Kimble is planning to sell the cakes every Friday, except during December, which is the shop’s busiest month because of Christmas snack tins and fundraisers. Last Friday, the line was out the door for funnel cakes and normal orders. By 2 p.m., 16 had been sold.

Customer Katie Farmer was making up for a missed opportunity.
“I was going to get one at the Apple Butter Festival in Chapmanville two weeks ago, and I didn’t get to go,” she said.
Rosie Hill works downtown and heard about Funnel Cake Friday from the sign outside the Peanut Shoppe. She already comes every Friday for peanuts but plans to add funnel cakes to her order.

Jennifer Lopez comes to the Peanut Shoppe a few times a week to get nuts, specifically her favorite chocolate-covered cashews. She said it’s been a few years since she got a funnel cake.
She said the treat was "tasty," "crunchy" and "yummy."
“It’s one of the best ones I’ve ever had,” she said.
