EERC Senior Program: The East End Resource Center Senior Program, located at the Roosevelt Neighborhood Center, 502 Ruffner Ave. in Charleston, will provide a free noon luncheon prepared by Kanawha Valley Senior Services. Activities will include an informational session by Bryan A. Unger from West Virginia Senior Benefits. Discussions will be held on scam prevention, registering for the Do Not Call Registry and other benefits for seniors. Seniors will share thoughts on their recent movie outing to watch “Stella” that they attended on July 28 at the Floralee Hark Cohen Cinema. Special Needs Tennis: Free tennis for those with special needs of all ages is offered from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the YMCA of Kanawha Valley, in partnership with West Virginia Special Olympics. Mindfulness Meditation Classes: Dr. Christine Blice-Baum conducts weekly classes in mindfulness meditation both in person and online on Wednesdays and Tuesdays. Wednesday participants are asked to purchase the book “The Book of Joy” by the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Tuesday weekly classes are held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1600 Kanawha Blvd., E., in Charleston, from 10 to 11 a.m. and are hybrid classes offered in person and on Zoom. This class is led in the tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and consists of a welcome, opening meditation, walking meditation, discussion, and closing meditation. Tuesday participants are asked to purchase the book “We Were Made For These Times: 10 Lessons for Moving Through Change, Loss and Disruption” by Kaira Jewel Lingo. S.C. Ribbon Cutting: A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at Vintage and Vines Mercantile, 609 D St. in South Charleston. Owned by Amy Burdette, Vintage and Vines Mercantile focuses on sustainable goods curated to feel like home. The first floor of the building will feature vintage décor, furniture, records, houseplants, clothing, West Virginia products, and more. The upper floor will be filled with more than 40 vendor booths offering a variety of vintage and artisan goods. Hours of operation will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The public is invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which will be conducted by Mayor Frank Mullens Jr. and South Charleston Chamber of Commerce and South Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau officials.
Malden Farmers Market: The Malden Farmers Market is open from 1 to 4 p.m. (or until produce sells out) Thursdays through Labor Day, located next to Kanawha Salines Presbyterian Church in Malden. Available produce from Gritt’s Farm in Buffalo includes red and green tomatoes, green peppers, small cucumbers, zucchini, summer squash, half-runner green beans, corn on the cob, candy onions, cantaloupe, watermelons, and peaches. Several types of homemade breads, cakes, brownies, and pickles and fresh eggs will also be available.
‘Inside the Huddle’: United Bank and United Way of Central West Virginia will present “Inside the Huddle” with Tony Caridi at 5:30 p.m. at the Ball Toyota Event Center in the Patrick Street Plaza in Charleston. Along with Caridi’s insider sports commentary, the event will feature food, beverages, silent and live auctions, a 50/50 drawing, and Caridi’s radio show guest. Fall Ball Signups: The first round of signups for new Fall Ball T-ball, coach-pitch boys and girls and player-pitch softball and baseball players will be held from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at the ball field concession stand located near Cedar Grove Middle School, 200 John St. in Cedar Grove.
