Welcome back to “At the Game,” a feature we're producing on high school football game nights to keep readers in the loop of what's going on across the area, in as close to real time as we can manage.
Week 10 of Mountain State high school football brings a special treat: a showdown of undefeateds in Southern West Virginia. Mingo Central and Chapmanville, both 8-0, tangle on the Tigers’ turf on Friday night, looking to keep up a full head of steam with postseason play nigh.
A handful of other intriguing games locally dot the schedule, including Parkersburg-Herbert Hoover, Capital-Nitro, Winfield-Riverside and Spring Valley-South Charleston. County rivalries Cabell Midland-Huntington and Sherman-Scott are also on the docket.

Sherman holds off Scott 42-34 with late TD
With the score tied 34-34 late in the fourth quarter, Sherman's Trey Lester ran for a 23-yard touchdown with 3:33 left to play and Colby Atkins converted the two-point try to give the Tide a hard-fought 42-34 win at Boone County rival Scott.

Scott and Sherman in classic rivalry battle after three
Scott holds a 27-26 lead over Sherman after three quarters in West Madison following a fireworks-filled third quarter.
Okwonko again
Mayshaun Okwonko with a 17-yard TD run up the middle. Huck Captain with the extra point. Huntington High leads Cabell Midland 35-0 with 4:48 left in the third quarter.
Brown breaks 1,000 yards
With a 27-yard carry in the third quarter, South Charleston's Malcolm Brown eclipsed 1,000 yards rushing for the season. Brown also has a touchdown pass in the game that went for 65 yards but Spring Valley is in control, leading 42-14 through three quarters.
Bombs away!
On the first play of the third quarter, Tayveon Wilson throws a 45-yard touchdown pass to Donte Newsome. Bennett Weimer's extra point gives Huntington High a 28-0 lead over Cabell Midland.
Hoover up 13 heading to final quarter
The Herbert Hoover Huskies scored on their two offensive possessions in the third quarter, taking a 27-14 lead into the final quarter.
Wide left
Cabell Midland and Huntington High each has missed two field goals, the Knights of 39 and 53, the Highlanders 33 and 43. Huntington High leads 21-0 at halftime.
Big plays fuel Sherman to 20-7 halftime lead at Scott
Sherman leads Boone County rival Scott 20-7 at the break from Boone Memorial Health Field in West Madison, a lead highlighted by an early 72-yard scoop-and-score by the Tide's Chase Southern and a 70-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Trey Lester as the first half was winding down.
South Charleston adds a score, trails Spring Valley 28-7

The Timberwolves followed their two first quarter TDs with two each in the second quarter to lead it 28-0. South Charleston got on the board with a 27-yard TD pass from Malcolm Brown to Mike'kai Gordon to set the halftime score.
Spring Valley was stopped at the South Charleston 11 as the first half expired.
Oh! Okwonko!
Mayshaun Okwonko with a 45-yard touchdown run. Bennett Weimer boots the point after. Huntington High leads Cabell Midland 21-0, 4:56 before halftime.
Lineman scores for Huntington High
Offensive lineman Caleb Parlier lines up at fullback and runs for a 3-yard touchdown for Huntington High. Parlier is a transfer from Cabell Midland. Bennett Weimer kicks the extra point for a 14-0 lead at 8:57 of the second quarter. Mayshaun Okwonko set up the TD with a 73-yard run.
Wilson to Reese puts Highlanders on the board
Tayveon Resse throws a 43-yard touchdown pass to Anreas Reese. Bennett Wimer kicks the extra point at 2:33 of the first quarter. Huntington High, which has seven penalties for 50 yards, leads Cabell Midland 7-0.
Hoover ahead after two quarters
Herbert Hoover and Parkersburg exchanged touchdown drives in the second quarter.
Hoover quarterback Peyton Grigsby finds Lance Williams for a seven-yard touchdown.
Parkersburg's Alex Greer and Austin Craven help the Big Reds get on the board with a 12-yard touchdown.
The Huskies lead 14-7 after two quarters.
Huskies jump out early
The Herbert Hoover Huskies start warming up on their first possession of the game, going 41 yards, which was capped off by a two-yard touchdown run by Blake Fisher.
The Huskies lead 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Spring Valley takes control early
Zeke Lewis on a fourth and three from Spring Valley's own 23-yard-line ran down the South Charleston sideline for a 77-yard TD. The Timberwolves would also add a 36-yard TD pass and lead South Charleston 14-0 at the start of the second quarter.
