The University of Charleston is set to host a panel discussion focused on a critical hurdle for West Virginia entrepreneurs: securing the capital necessary to launch and sustain a small business.
The event, titled "Funding Sources for Small Business," will take place Thursday, Feb. 19, at 4 p.m. at the UC Downtown Innovation Hub. As part of the university’s "Two Views" series, the program aims to provide local business owners with insights into identifying and leveraging financial resources tailored to their specific needs.
The upcoming session features a panel of regional experts, including Scott Rotruck, vice president of external relations at Vertx Partners; Ben Adkins, an investment analyst at the West Virginia Jobs Investment Trust; and Joe Brouse, a senior loan officer at West Virginia Economic Development. Victoria Russo, the vice president of business retention and expansion for the Charleston Area Alliance, will serve as the moderator for the discussion.
By bringing together perspectives from venture capital, state-backed investment, and economic development loans, the event seeks to demystify the complex landscape of small business finance.
Following the panel, attendees are invited to a networking reception featuring appetizers and drinks provided by Adelphia Sports Bar & Grille. This event is a component of the university’s broader "Inspiring Innovation" initiative, which is supported by Huntington Bank and includes the "Thinking Outside the Lunchbox" series.
While the session is free and open to the public, university officials noted that seating is limited and registration is highly recommended. Interested participants can find more information and sign up through the university’s website at www.ucwv.edu/events.
