Coming off a 2024 NCAA tournament super regional appearance, the West Virginia University baseball team has been picked fourth in the 2025 Big 12 preseason poll.
The Mountaineers garnered 115 points, edging out Texas Tech, which garnered 111, for that spot in a vote of the league’s coaches. That is the highest predicted finish for WVU in its 12-year history in the league.
Oklahoma State, with nine first-place votes, was tabbed as the preseason favorite, followed by Arizona and TCU. The Cowboys won last year’s Big 12 tournament.
West Virginia opens its conference schedule with three games on the road against Oklahoma State from March 14-16.
The Mountaineers also host preseason No. 2 pick Arizona and No. 5 Texas Tech for three-game sets.
West Virginia catcher Logan Sauve was the sole Mountaineer selected to the league’s preseason all-conference squad, which consisted of 20 players.
Sauve hit .308 in 2024, smacking eight home runs and eight doubles while driving in 37 runs and producing an OPS of .863. He also scored 42 runs in his 45 games (44 starts) and earned All-Tucson Regional honors to help the Mountaineers win that region in the NCAA tournament.
The Mountaineers open the season with a four-game road swing in Jacksonville, Florida, from Feb. 14-16, when they will face the Jacksonville University Dolphins.
