NUTTER FORT, W.Va. (WV News) — Isaac Wolfe threw five innings of four-hit shutout ball with 10 strikeouts and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish took their opener by 10-0 mercy rule against the Tygarts Valley Bulldogs at Frank Loria Memorial Field.

The Irish scored in all five half-innings, with Noah Mazzie driving in three runs, Preston Heslip adding a triple, run and two RBIs and Gene Hutchinson going 2-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBIs.

Cole Goldizen added a double, run and RBI and leadoff hitter Anthony Rogers scored three times.

On Monday, Tygarts Valley (1-1) is at Trinity at 5 p.m., while Notre Dame (1-0) hosts St. Marys at 6 p.m.

DODDRIDGE COUNTY 7, St. Marys 3: Jacob DeHaven, Aiden Eddy and Jared Jones combined to allow three hits and strike out 11 batters for the Bulldogs (2-0).

Doddridge County scored three runs in both the third and sixth innings to secure the win.

Dylan Knight scored three runs, stole four bases and drove in a run to lead the Bulldogs offensively.

Ian Spadafore tripled, scored a run and knocked in another.

Doddridge County hosts Webster County on Tueday at 5 p.m.

High School Softball

PARKERSBURG SOUTH 5, Buckhannon-Upshur 4 (F/10): Kassidy Trimble’s RBI groundout in the

top of the 10th gave the Patriots the victory.

Shelby McDaniels had a solo home run and scored twice for B-U and Robin Ball and Kailey Hart had an RBI each.

Jansen Kimble was the hard-luck loser, giving up one earned run on eight hits with four strikeouts in 10 innings of work.

Alexi Dellinger went the distance for PSHS to get the win, giving up two earned runs on four hits with eight K’s.

B-U led 1-0 after the first inning and 2-0 after the fourth inning, but Parkersburg South scored four runs in the top of the sixth only for the Bucs to answer with a pair in the bottom of the sixth.

College Wrestling

HALL EARNS ALL-AMERICAN HONORS: Sophomore Peyton Hall of the West Virginia University wrestling team closed out the NCAA tournament with an eighth-place showing in the 165-pound field.

No. 9-seed Hall squared off against No. 7-seed Carson Kharchla of Ohio State in the seventh-place match after dropping a 10-6 decision to No. 4-seed Dean Hamiti of Wisconsin on Friday night.

After a scoreless first period, the Chester, West Virginia, native escaped to take a 1-0 lead into the third period.

Kharchla responded with a reversal in the opening seconds of the third and prevented the Mountaineer from escaping for over a minute, as the Buckeye escaped with a 3-2 decision off the point for riding time.

Hall concluded his sophomore season as the team leader in wins with 28, including six in the postseason (Big 12s and NCAAs).
