Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., is facing calls for his resignation from Democrats and a major Islamic civil rights group for writing in a recent social media post, “If they force us to choose, the choice between dogs and Muslims is not a difficult one.”
Predictably, all of the self-righteous indignation mongers came out of the woodwork prompting calls for Fine’s resignation. I say, good for Rep. Fine for stating his honest opinion.
Interestingly, Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., indicated that Fine “should be forced to resign.” Garcia is not very bright. Fine’s language is protected under the First Amendment and, therefore, cannot constitute misconduct.
California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom responded to Fine’s comment, “Resign now, you racist slob.” Newsom has every right to state his personal opinion.
My personal opinion is that Newsom is nothing more than a media-created liberal sensation whose head is so full of hot air that it’s a wonder he doesn’t float away.
Fine’s critics need to grow thicker skin. They need to realize that the public forum is not their “safe space.”
America is exceptional in one way -- it’s Bill of Rights. We have the right to the freest language in the world. We can say just about anything without being persecuted by the government. We can bash racial minorities, gays, transgender people, gods, religions, ICE agents, our political opponents, Trump, etc., and the government cannot do a thing about it.
Free speech has many advantages. Imagine a society in which people said only nice, inoffensive things. I cannot imagine a more boring place.
